R20-million Grant for Environment. (17 September, 1996)

The environment will benefit by R20-million through Denmark's governmental funding organisation, the Danish Cooperation for Environment and Development (Danced), it was announced yesterday. The support will focus on three specific projects in the fields of water quality and waste management. These are: national waste management strategies and action plans; hazardous waste incineration at Pretoria Portland Cement; and strategies to manage water quality effects of dense settlements.

Governmental agreements on the three projects will be signed in Cape Town tomorrow. Danced has previously provided nearly R30-million in assistance on eight projects, including the development of a new environmental policy for South Africa, and further significant financial support for environmental projects has been pledged.

The assistance will be provided for at least a five-year period, with an initial budget of about R200-million. Courtesy of The Star .
